Safe Links, Safe Attachments, anti-phishing with impersonation protection, and real-time detections, across Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive.
Included in: Included in Microsoft 365 Business Premium and, since July 2026, in Office 365 E3 and Microsoft 365 E3. Plan 2, with attack simulation and automated investigation, is in E5.
Who needs it
- Users on Business Basic or Standard, which carry only the baseline protection.
- Any organisation where finance approves payments by email.
- Companies that want the protection without the security-operations tooling of Plan 2.

Plan 1 or Plan 2?
Plan 1 protects; Plan 2 adds the investigation and simulation tooling a security team uses. Most organisations without a security function are right with Plan 1.
Does it work with a third-party mail gateway in front?
It can, but the two overlap; most estates simplify to one.
